For our third meeting for Disability in British Art we will be exploring a range of artworks made by socially-engaged artists whose practice sought to offer a wider insight into what it is to be human, opening up societal taboos to scrutiny.

For his paper Colin Hambrook has chosen artworks from across four decades that crosses different genres, media and levels of public profile with a view to opening up a conversation about two strands within Disability Arts practice – one of which challenges the representation of disability from the political perspective of the lived experience of barriers and the other which approaches the subject of disability with the aim of raising awareness of impairment or illness, be that physical or psychological.

This will be a hybrid discussion event at Nottingham Contemporary and on Zoom.

This event is open to Research Group members only and places are limited.  The group is for artist researchers, curators and academics.
