Daniel Fountain

Dr Daniel Fountain (he/they) is an artist, curator, and researcher specialising in modern and contemporary queer visual culture. Daniel is Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture at the University of Exeter.

Daniel has published widely on queer crafts and has written extensively about the work of queer and transgender artists. Their edited collection Crafted with Pride: Queer Craft and Activism in Contemporary Britain (University of Chicago Press and Intellect Books, 2023) is the first book to explore queer craft and the material cultures of LGBTQ+ activism in Britain. The book was produced following an online symposium they curated with the Queer British Art research group in 2021.

Daniel has extensive curatorial experience and they have produced exhibitions and public programmes with organisations in the United Kingdom, United States, Italy and Australia. Daniel has also been invited to deliver guest lectures at various museums and galleries, most recently at the Whitworth Art Gallery, Midlands Arts Centre, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Museum of the Home, and Tate Britain.
